Image of New Orleans from Space

We recently received this image of New Orleans taken Tuesday, September 6th, 2005. The big body of water north of the city is Lake Pontchartrain. The dark areas in New Orleans were still flooded with water on Tuesday.

This image was taken from space using NASA's Advanced Land Imager satellite. This satellite is part of NASA's New Millennium Project, which strives to get prototype satellites to space quicker. This allows engineers to make changes and improve designs without huge budgets and projects that take decades to develop.

Special thanks to Paul Morin at the University of Minnesota and the USGS/EROS Data Center for providing us with this image.
