September is upon us, and many of us in the Northern Hemisphere are looking forward to more moderate weather, especially in New York City where the “Summer of 2010”
was the hottest on record. And I can tell you from personal experience, it was a scorcher. Check out this New York Times article for all the facts and figures.

One of my favorite activities to do with museum visitors in the Mississippi River Gallery is to show them scat samples (the scientific name of animal poop). They're actually rubber copies of the scat, but I don't tell people that right way and get some very vivid reactions. I have now graduated up to identifying large African animal scats.
